Project Yellow Light is a national video, billboard, and radio competition where you design ads warning your peers of the dangers of distracted driving for a chance to win up to $8,000 in scholarships. This is for high school juniors and seniors between the ages of 14 and 20; or full-time undergraduate college students between the ages of 15 and 25 (for students under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign an eligibility form). To compete, students must create a video ad, radio spot, or design for a billboard ad that encourages young drivers who are new to the road to stop distracted driving - specifically phone use while driving. In a world where we regularly stay connected through technology, drivers don’t always realize when they shift into distracted driving. The ads that the students create are designed to remind them that distracted driving is dangerous. For the video competition: For both the high school and college categories, the winner will receive a scholarship in the amount of $8,000. Videos are due April 1. For the radio competition: For both high school and college categories, the winner will receive a scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Recordings are due April 1. Builders Exchange of NW Michigan Scholarship - the Builders Exchange is a trade association consisting of member companies engaged in commercial and multi-family construction throughout northern Michigan. They function similarly to a chamber of commerce. Each year, they offer 2 scholarships, each valued at $1,500, which are awarded at the discretion of their 9-member board of directors. Applications are due to the Builders Exchange office - 3175 Continental Dr., Ste. A, Traverse City, Michigan 49686 - by April 4 - either hard copy or emailed to Lisa@bxtvc.com. The application process is quite straightforward, with the only key requirement being that applicants must have a sponsor from one of their member companies. If any student is interested in applying but needs assistance connecting with a company, Lisa would be more than happy to facilitate that. With over 300 member companies, covering most of the large and medium-sized construction firms in the region, it's likely that students may already know someone associated with them. They typically receive only a small number of applications, which means the chances of being awarded a scholarship are quite favorable!
